The Klis Fortress is a medieval fortress situated above the village bearing the same name, near the city of Split, in central Dalmatia, Croatia. From its origin as a small stronghold built by the ancient Illyrian tribe Dalmatae, becoming a royal castle that was the seat of many Croatian kings, to its final development as a large fortress during the Ottoman wars in Europe, Klis Fortress has guarded the frontier, being lost and re-conquered several times throughout its more than two thousand year-long history.

Due to its location on a passage that separates Mosor and Kozjak mountains, the fortress served as a major defense in Dalmatia, especially against the Ottoman advance, and has been a key crossroad between the Mediterranean belt and the Balkan rear. Klis fortress gained world fame due to the TV series Game of Thrones. We offer you a pleasant transfer in a comfortable vehicle, with a panoramic view of Split, followed by a visit to Klis. Free time for lunch or dinner in one of the famous Klis restaurants. The famous “Klis lamb roast” is considered a delicacy so Klis is a frequent destination for gourmands in Split, as well as stray tourists who inevitably come back to enjoy the boons of the rich Klis dining table. It is known that even the Roman emperor Diocletian often enjoyed eating the lamb roast coming from the pastures of Klis, and after a delicious dish he would end his pleasure with wines from different Dalmatian regions.
